Stay safe while driving in Chicago with the Collision Mitigation Braking System
The Honda Collision Mitigation Braking System is a handy feature to have when driving in Chicago and the surrounding area. Designed to reduce the severity of an unavoidable collision, the CMBS goes through several steps of intervention depending on the predicted severity of the incident. But how does one use the collision system in a Honda Odyssey?
Properly equipped Honda Odyssey models will use the Collision Mitigation Braking System automatically. The driver does not have to do anything to use or enable it; even if the driver deactivates the system, it will automatically be re-activated every time someone starts the Odyssey engine.
What does the Collision Mitigation Braking System do?
The Collision Mitigation Braking System uses visual, audible and tactile alerts to warn drivers of an impending collision. It then applies the brakes to varying degrees. The CMBS will start by providing rapid vibrations to the steering wheel when it thinks things are getting dangerous.
First, the CMBS will deliver a visual and audible warning. Second, it will deliver a visual and audible warning with a light application of the brakes. Finally, it will deliver the visual and audible warning with a strong application of the brakes.
When does the Collision Mitigation Braking System activate?
The CMBS activates when:
- A potential collision with an oncoming vehicle is determined.
- The speed difference between your vehicle and a vehicle or pedestrian in front of you is about 3 mph or over with a chance of collision.
- There’s a chance of collision with an oncoming vehicle or pedestrian and you’re going about 62 mph or less.
How do I change the settings on the collision system in a Honda Odyssey?
To change the CMBS settings on a 2019 Honda Odyssey, first make sure your vehicle is in park. Then:
- Select “Settings” from the Home screen
- Select “Vehicle”
- Select “Drive Assist System Setup”
- Select “Forward Collision Warning Distance”
- Choose between “Long,” “Normal,” and “Short”
- Press “Save”
How do I turn the Collision Mitigation Braking System on or off?
To turn to CMBS off, find the CMBS OFF button to the left of the steering wheel. Hold this down, and you’ll hear a beep and get a message on your Driver Information Display. A CMBS indicator will appear when the system is off.
CMBS automatically turns on every time you start your engine.
CMBS is included on the Honda Sensing Safety Suite
